# Quickstart

> Create your first Account Canvas block and preview it in Shopify customer accounts.

## Before you start

* Install Account Canvas on the Shopify store you want to edit.
* Enable Shopify customer accounts; legacy account theme pages are a different experience.
* Make sure you can edit customer account settings in Shopify.
* Start with a simple block without conditions. Add personalization after its placement works.

Paid content can be available to draft or preview without being eligible for live publishing. Check [plans and limits](/plans-and-limits) before activating it.

## 1. Create your content

1. Open **Account Canvas** from Shopify admin.
2. Open **Blocks** and choose the create option.
3. Select a simple template such as an announcement, rich text, or image with text.
4. Replace example content with your own text and images.
5. Check every button and link destination.
6. Save the block, and activate it when you are ready and your plan permits it.
7. Copy its block ID if the Shopify placement asks for one.

A block's management name helps you find it in the app. Use its customer-facing heading and body settings for the text customers should see.

## 2. Add the Shopify placement

1. In Shopify admin, open **Settings → Customer accounts**, then open the account editor.
2. Select the account page or location you want to customize.
3. Add the matching Account Canvas app block.
4. For admin-managed content, paste the saved block ID into the placement's ID field.
5. Save the changes in Shopify.

Some static app blocks are configured directly in Shopify's editor. Do not paste an admin-managed block ID into an unrelated static block.

## 3. Check the live experience

Open the store's customer account as a test customer and confirm:

* The content is visible in the intended location.
* Images, spacing, and links work on desktop and mobile.
* The correct store and customer values appear.
* No example content, unintended links, or unnecessary personal information is shown.

The visual builder can use sample customer or order data. A real signed-in account is needed to verify live data, conditions, and supported actions.

## 4. Add targeting or a complete page

Once the first block works, add [visibility conditions](/conditions), insert [variables](/variables), or combine content into a [custom page](/pages).

If something is missing, follow [troubleshooting](/troubleshooting). For removal or a fresh installation, see [install and uninstall](/install-and-uninstall).
